So many memories I have of my favorite teacher, not only
did we share a birth month but she played an integral role
in my elementary education. I know we had more than just
a teacher -student relationship. Ms Christie was a mentor,
mother and a friend. I will truly miss her but I know she is
safe and happy in the arms of God.

June, where do we begin? back in the earlier days when
we worked at Mona Preparatory School, June in her classroom
with her Grade 5 students, Lilieth next door in a
narrow corridor which formed a classroom with her Grade
2 students and me, Carole downstairs on the piano, teaching
the school orchestra.
Those were lovely days. We always found June marking
a large pile of exercise books and talking to the students
who arrived in class early. Her students were her life. You
could see by her actions towards them. She wanted the
best for them and went about her daily duties achieving it.
Her students and others loved her and you could see the
close bonding June had with them. It was not the normal
everyday teacher-student affair, June was there for them
like an extra mother and she was admired for that. We
know she will be greatly missed by past and present
students
June was a fashion icon. Did she love her fashion!! Everyday
we looked out for new outfit that June would be arriving
through the school gate with and it would be fabulous!!.
Everything matched and suited her well. It was the norm
to say to her each day "I love your outfit". She was complimented
daily. We can remember sometimes after extra
lessons, we would take the bus to the shopping Plaza's
looking at various fashions in the windows and she would
be buying bits of material here and there for the next outfit.
If someone did not have a clue about fashion, June Christie
could teach a person a thing or two.
We will miss her greatly. She was an inspiration, a
beaming light to the students past and present and lastly
she was a good and trusting friend.

My Hero, Who Raised Me
June Christie has been described as many things, mentor,
favorite teacher, role model and friend. All these, represent
the extraordinary human being that is June. I got to call her
Mummy June.
It is that privilege that shaped who I am today and the
person that I am becoming. All my successes and
aspirations, I attribute to her. For her early morning waking
to take me to school, her financial sacrifices, her patience,
her tough love when I needed it and her gentle way when
I was at my weakest, also a lifetime of motherly love, I
declare her my hero.
The most profound thing however is that she did not birth
me but chose me as her son. A gift I will cherish for life and
her legacy has been passed down to my daughter Grace,
her granddaughter. Though I will never be able to fill her
shoes, I walk with her principles and love in my heart. I
have still, to aspire to her remarkable contribution through,
over thirty, years of teaching and upwards of eight hundred
students later, (I calculated the numbers) an instrument of
love and dedication has now transcended.
Heroes are not lost, they transcend.
You are free to fly now Mummy June.
